STAHS Ensembles

Students take part in TA Junior Band

TA Senior Band

Conductors - Mike McIsaac, Darcy Ura

The TA Symphonic Winds and Percussion is the senior ensemble which consists of students in Grades 9-12. We have a consistent membership of approximately 35-40 students but we are always glad to have members of the community come and participate for the love of music. The senior group also forms smaller ensembles, such as, the Saxophone Quartet, Clarinet Choir, Brass Choir and the RnB/Jazz Combo, for special events and or concerts. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the school year from 3:30-5:00 p.m. The students who enroll in AMR 1O, AMR 2O, AMR 3O, AMR 4O, AMI4 or AMU4M can gain a credit for their time and effort in the band program. Most students graduate from the intermediate winds straight into SWP but students may audition if they were not in the junior or intermediate winds and wish to participate in the senior group. Please see Mr. Ura for details.

Intermediate Winds (Gr.7/8) Beginners and One Year of Playing Experience

Conductor - Janet Schonewille

The TA Intermediate Winds is the Grade 8 ensemble. Students who were in the Junior Winds in Grade 7, traditionally gradate to the Intermediate Winds the following year. This is a crucial step for most students to be able to play in the senior ensembles. This group rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m. throughout the year.

Junior Winds (Gr.5/6) Beginning Musicians

Conductor - Carolyn Hudson

The TA Junior Winds is the grade 6/7 ensemble. Students who have never played an instrument are invited to come and join this exciting group. Students will learn all of the fundamentals of their instrument and learn to play as a group. This group rehearses on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m. throughout the year.
