Grade 9 students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School spent the day stepping into the world of work as part of Take Our Kids to Work Day, an annual event across Ontario that invites students to explore real-world career experiences.

From healthcare and community services to engineering, construction, hospitality, business, education, and public safety, students were welcomed into a wide variety of local workplaces. The experience gave them a firsthand look at different career paths, the daily routines of professionals, and the skills needed to succeed in each field.

Cassandra Babiachuk, a Guidance Teacher at STAHS, shared why she believes this opportunity is so meaningful:

“The Take Our Kid to Work Day gives the students a real-world glimpse into the working world. It allows them to make a real connection to what they have been learning in class, through Guidance presentations and through conversations with me as their Guidance teacher. It allows them to open their minds to different career opportunities and spark conversations around goals, interests and possibilities. Every grade 9 student deserves that window into their future.”

Throughout the day, students shadowed parents, relatives, and mentors, gaining valuable insight into the working world and a better understanding of how their classroom learning connects to future opportunities.

Take Our Kids to Work Day is an important milestone that helps students begin thinking about their career goals and the pathways that can help them get there, inspiring the next generation of leaders, builders, caregivers, and innovators.
