St. Thomas Aquinas High School students laced up their runners on Thursday to take part in the annual Terry Fox Run, raising funds in honour of Terry’s legacy and his dream of ending cancer.

This year, the school community raised just over $3,200, with every student playing a role in the effort. Leading the way was Grade 8 student Leah Bisonette, who singlehandedly raised $2,900,  more than doubling the school’s original goal all on her own.

Leah shared that her inspiration came from a very personal place. “My grandparents had cancer, and it just always came from there. I always want to keep going because we need to raise money, it’s an ongoing thing,” she said.

When asked what Terry’s story means to her, Leah explained, “You just have to keep going, no matter what, and always put your best foot forward for everything.”

She also encouraged other students to get involved: “It’s the easiest thing to do. You just have to walk around the neighborhood and ask for donations. It’s really easy, and you don’t actually need that much time. Just keep going.”

Congratulations to Leah and to the entire STAHS community for keeping Terry’s dream alive through determination, generosity, and spirit.
