This week, Ms. Penner, Mrs. Martin, and the Leadership & Peer Support class at St. Thomas Aquinas High School collaborated with Mrs. Dufresne and the Grade 6 students at St. John Paul II School on a creative and hands-on project to mark National Skilled Trades and Technology Week!

The task? To design and build dream playgrounds using only popsicle sticks! 🛠️ The GPP3O students from STAHS took on the role of foremen, leading their Grade 6 teams through every step of the process. Day one was all about planning, as each team worked together to draft blueprints of their playground designs. On day two, those ideas came to life as students constructed their imaginative models, bringing their playground visions to reality.

The Grade 6 students were thrilled with their final creations, showcasing their hard work and teamwork. This project was more than just fun—it introduced students to basic skills in skilled trades and encouraged creativity in a real-world context.

A huge thank you to the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) for sponsoring this exciting event and supporting our students in exploring the skilled trades. National Skilled Trades and Technology Week is a fantastic way to inspire the next generation, and this project was a hit from start to finish!
