On Friday, April 10, 2026, all Grade 8 students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School had the opportunity to take part in an engaging, hands-on field trip to the Seven Generations Education Institute. This full-day experience was designed to provide early exposure to post-secondary programming and career pathways, made possible through the support of the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).
Students were warmly welcomed and immersed in a variety of interactive learning stations across the campus. Each station introduced a different program area, giving students a chance to explore potential career interests while actively participating in related activities.
Highlights of the day included:
-
Culinary Arts, where students experienced food preparation techniques
-
Makerspace, featuring cultural crafts and sewing
-
Driving Simulator, offering a realistic and engaging driving experience
-
Nursing Lab, providing insight into healthcare training
-
MILO Range, showcasing advanced training simulations
-
Fitness Centre, promoting health and wellness careers
-
Mobile Trades Lab, introducing skilled trades opportunities
-
Ambulance Tour, offering a glimpse into emergency services
Throughout the day, students were actively engaged, curious, and excited to learn. The hands-on nature of each station allowed them to better understand the skills and knowledge required in various fields.
Experiences like this are invaluable in helping students begin to imagine their futures. By exposing them to diverse career paths and post-secondary options early on, they gain a deeper appreciation for the opportunities available - right within their own community.
St. Thomas Aquinas High School extends sincere thanks to the team at Seven Generations Education Institute and OYAP for hosting such an inspiring and meaningful day of learning.
