The Saints curling team is making waves this season, not just for their skill on the ice, but also for their fresh new apparel. The logo on their hoodies was created by Grade 12 student and dedicated team member, Sarah Biehn, whose creativity and hard work have made a big impact on her team and school.

Sarah’s curling journey started in Kenora, where she spent five years in the Little Rocks curling league and developed her skills with lessons from Andrea Ronnebeck during Grades 7 and 8. Since joining the Saints curling team two years ago, Sarah has become an important part of the team, starting as a second in her first year and taking on the role of skip this year.

Although Sarah hasn’t taken visual art courses at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, she’s been passionate about art since elementary school, taking classes and practicing consistently. This background helped her design a logo that represents both the team and the values of STAHS.

“For the concept of the logo, I wanted to make a design that included our original school logo, using red for school colours, and an angel’s wing to represent STAHS values,” Sarah explained. “I also thought it would be cool to add an abstract halo, with a curling rink wrapping around the 'S' and a rock sliding at the end.”

The design process was a team effort, with Sarah’s curling coach, Jon, offering helpful ideas and feedback that shaped the final version. The finished logo is more than just a design; it’s a symbol of the team’s dedication and spirit.

While Sarah has created logos for school projects and personal use in the past, this is her first official logo to be publicly displayed. Seeing her teammates wear hoodies featuring her design has been a proud and rewarding experience.

“It’s such a great feeling to see others wear this logo on their hoodies to represent our curling team and school,” Sarah shared. “I couldn’t be happier to see my teammates wear this hoodie to represent such a fun sport and support this amazing group of athletes!”

Sarah’s story shows how creativity and passion can come together to make something special. Her commitment to both curling and art has brought her team closer and left a lasting contribution to the Saints curling program.

Congratulations to Sarah and the Saints for representing STAHS with pride both on and off the ice!
